Where do you live and what is your family's origin?
I live in Huntsville, Alabama (the Rocket City!), although I grew up in Virginia. My husband's family is very Italian. So I consider my cooking to be some sort of weird fusion between Southern and Italian!

Where do you get your culinary inspiration from?
Most of my cooking starts with vegetables. I'm not a vegetarian by any stretch, but I'm always more inspired by things that are fresh and colorful! I love wandering through our local farmer's market or through the Fresh Market to find ingredients.

where did your blog name come from and why did you start blogging?
Actually, ElementaryChef existed before I started writing there. The original writer had to quit writing it, and I jumped at the chance to take over the site. The idea behind the site is to offer recipes and advice for beginning cooks and even just for cooks who are looking for easy recipes. My personal goal for the site is provide recipes for meals that are easy to prepare (and usually at least resonably healthy!) I hope that having real solutions for dinner, folks will be inspired to spend more time eating at home with their families.

Whats your favorite thing about cooking?
I like seeing things come together with absolutely no classroom management required! Seriously, it's amazingly gratifying to see the work of your hands turn into something beautiful and tasty. I also enjoy seeing my kids learn to enjoy and savor the flavors of REAL food. You know? The stuff that doesn't come from McDonald's or even (my favorite drive-through) Chick-fil-a.

Besides cooking what is something you like do on your spare time?
I'm an avid reader. I guess that goes with being an English teacher. I also spend a lot of time acting in local theatre productions!
