Where do you live and what is your family's origin?
I am a purebred Texan. I grew up in Dallas and presently reside in a small East Texas town named Sulphur Springs.
What do you do for a living?
I'm a full-time Mom, Domestic Goddess, and part-time Food Blogger. I'm that woman who always has an orderly house and home-schools her kids. (However, I do not own a denim dress, nor do I live on a farm.) My mornings are spent educating my two kids. My afternoons are spent posting recipes, editing photographs and drinking coffee with my friends, while their kids play with my kids.
Where do you get your culinary inspiration from?
Well first, I stare into the refrigerator to see what's fresh. I peek into the freezer for meals I've made ahead. Next, I move stuff around in the pantry to see what's hasn't been consumed. I usually make two to three laps like this. All the while, I ask myself these questions: What am I in the mood to eat? Will my family eat it? My kids love simple foods. My husband appreciates a hot, hardy meal for dinner. Let's see. What can I do with these leftovers?
where did your blog name come from and why did you start blogging?
Simple Daily Recipes is the best way to describe the style of cooking and sensibility of the recipes.
After reading beautiful food blogs about meals my kids wouldn't touch and recipes without photos, my husband encouraged and instructed me in the artistic expression of blogging.
From it's very beginning, I wanted SimpleDailyRecipes.com to be professional in structure, stuffed with worthy content, yet personal. The recipes are written based on my personal experience cooking them, but I don't write for myself. I'm writing to new friends who are looking for a good recipe to feed their families.
Blogging, next to motherhood, has become my Sweet Spot in life. It combines my three favorite arts: cooking, photography and journaling.
Whats your favorite thing about cooking?
Honestly, I enjoy being left alone while I cook. Just me, what I know, what I read somewhere, and something I want to try. My second favorite part to cooking is watching my family's faces light up with "yum" in their eyes and get so distracted by the meal that they forget to talk to each other.
Besides cooking what is something you like do on your spare time?
When I have a Mom's day off, I love to cruise the kitchen supply stores. At home, I take my turn on the TiVo box to catch up on my favorite food shows, then watch an episode of Duck Dodgers with the kids. It's how I unwind.
