  • add   1/4 cup sugar
  • add   3 egg yolks
  • add   3 egg whites
  • add   1/3 cup sugar
  • add   6 tablespoons butter
  • add   1/2 cup sugar
  • add   1/4 teaspoon salt
  • add   1/4 cup water
  • add   1 (6 ounce) package Nestle Toll House semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • add   2 tablespoons rum
  • add   1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • add   2 cups milk
  • add   chocolate shavings (optional)
  • add   1 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • add   1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • add   1/4 cup cornstarch
  • add   1 (1/4 ounce) envelope gelatin


  1. Graham Cracker Crust: In small bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, sugarand butter.
  2. Press evenly on bottom and sides of 9-inch pie plate. Chilluntil firm (about 1 hour).Chocolate Layer: In medium saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt.Gradually stir in milk.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, untilmixture boils.
  4. Remove from heat. In small bowl, beat egg yolks.
  5. Graduallystir in small amount of hot mixture; return to saucepan.
  6. Cook over lowheat, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat. Remove 1-1/2cups custard to medium bowl; add Nestle Toll House semi-sweet chocolatemorsels and vanilla extract. Stir until morsels are melted and mixture issmooth.
  8. Pour into prepared Graham Cracker Crust; chill until set (about 30minutes). While Chocolate Layer is chilling, prepare Vanilla Layer.
  9. Vanilla Layer: In large bowl, combine cold water and gelatin; let stand 5minutes.
  10. Add remaining warm custard; stir until gelatin dissolves.
  11. Cool 15minutes.
  12. Stir in rum; beat with wire whisk until smooth.
  13. Set aside. In1-1/2 quart bowl, combine egg whites and cream of tartar; beat until foamy.
  14. Gradually add sugar; beat until stiff peaks form.
  15. Fold egg whites intocustard; pour over chocolate layer.
  16. Chill until set (about 2 hours).Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, if desired.
  17. Makes one9-inch pie.
