This recipe has seen many changes over the years. It takes awhile to prepare but the smell that fills the house and the great flavor makes it well worth the time. This sauce freezes well so you can use half and freeze the rest for latter.

Ingredients [?] Add all ingredients to Shopping List

  •   1 1/2 lbs stew meat
  •   1 can tomato paste
  •   1 onion
  •   2 cloves garlic
  •   1 teaspoon ginger
  •   1 teaspoon cinnamon
  •   3 bay leaves
  •   1 (48 ounce) can tomato juice
  •   1 teaspoon cloves
  •   1 can tomato soup
  •   1 can water
  •   1 teaspoon allspice
  •   1 tablespoon oil

Instructions

    1. In a large pot brown meat (If you only brown one side of meat it will retain it's size and assorb more flavour from the sauce).
    2. Add all other ingredients.
    3. Heat to a near boil.
    4. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 6-8 hoursuntill sauce thickens.
    5. Serve with spaghetti noodels and cheese of your choice.

You've tried the rest - now try the best!! I've been making this ground beef/tomato based sauce for years - it freezes well & can be used for lasagna & other pasta dishes. The longer it simmers, the better it tastes. Since I don't measure the spices, I've estimated in order to share the recipe - but feel free to alter according to your own tastes. A little more red wine can't hurt either!!
